Notes

Recorded at the Underground in Fresno between 1991 and 1992, Drowning Dreams was The Shroud’s first statement: seven songs committed to cassette in May 1992 and sent out into the gothic underground by mail order. It is a debut in the truest sense, still finding its shape, moving between dream pop softness and deathrock harshness, held together by Lydia Fortner’s voice and lyrics.

Two of these songs, “Ophelia” and “Spectre,” would become the only two the band ever filmed videos for. “Kiss of Death” reaches back to the very first days of The Shroudettes.

LS-001 brings Drowning Dreams to vinyl for the first time. The audio has been remastered for the format from the original master, preserving its dynamic range and correcting only the flaws of the source. To serve the cut, the running order has been adjusted with the band’s approval: “Turn Away” now closes Side A and “Death’s Too Late” opens Side B, balancing the length of the two sides so that each groove carries the music at its best. The edition is a 180 gram dark blue LP in a full colour gatefold sleeve, with artwork prepared by the band, limited to 330 copies. Where The Shroud begins.
